Its that time of year again that all pacific north west natives are familiar with, Seafair! And my personal favorite of the festivities is the Swedish Seafair Triathlon. With Sprint and Olympic as well as duathatlon and relay options there is truly something for everyone. Seafair was one of the four races I participated in my first year in triathlon and it remains one of my all time favorite races. You can read all about last years race in the Swedish Seafair Triathlon 2015 Race Recap here.
Set in beautiful Seward Park in Seattle this race is both convenient and scenic. The park and surrounding neighborhood offers plenty of parking on race day, so even though this is one of the biggest short distance races in the northwest you wont have any trouble getting to the start line. The Swim takes place in Lake Washington which is usually a fairly comfortable swim venue. The bike takes you along the lake out to mercer island on the express ways and back, this is my favorite feature of the Swedish Seafair Triathlon. The run takes place back in Seward park making for beautiful views and a safe course. If you haven’t participated in the Swedish Seafair triathlon yet its time to get signed up!
Race Day Tips
- Seafair has a large field so make sure to show up with plenty of time to get body marked and set up in transition.
- Know the course, while marking for the sprint has always been excellent there have been markers missing on the Olympic course in the past. take a glance at the course map ahead of time to insure you have a great race day!
- Enjoy the course! This is one of the most beautiful courses in the northwest, make sure to enjoy it while you are out there!
