The mercury is rising and it is full blown BBQ season! Between the weddings, family reunions, and vacations it is easy to get off track over the summer, even if it is bikini season. These 10 summer health tips are sure to help you keep your health goals front and center this year!
Whatever your goals, having a good support system is paramount to your success. Whether you are working on shedding those extra pounds, getting fit, or eating clean make sure you create a system of support for yourself. Let your significant other, coworkers, family members and friends know what your goals are. Tell them how they can help and give them permission to call you out when you need it! Even better get them to join you on the healthy train! Meeting up with a workout buddy for those early morning sweat sessions makes you far less likely to hit the snooze button. Having a co-worker who is eating healthy with you makes it easier to pass on the break room cookies if you are in it together! Just make sure that you are motivating each other if you find that your success partner has become more of an excuse partner it’s time to change the attitude or find a new buddy. Your support network doesn’t have to be limited to those in your zip code. You can enlist a friend across the country who has similar goals to check in with on a regular basis. Count Your Cocktails
Summertime sangria, margaritas, or beers, they are all loaded with calories and lacking in nutrients. If you are trying to cut back on other indulgences but still throwing back cold ones you may be surprised to know that alcohol packs a whopping 7 calories per gram, that is almost twice as much as carbohydrates and proteins! For a healthy summer, treat try a refreshing clubs soda and lime mocktail instead! If you decided to indulge try to stay away from sugar-laden drinks. Stick to a spirit on the rocks, a glass of red wine, or replace the soda in your mix drink with club soda. For your health, limit yourself to one drink for women and two drinks for men.
Summertime heat waves mean staying hydrated is more important than ever! As the temperature rises you are losing more water and it is essential that you replace it. It may sound simple but this one is huge! Plan for success! If you know that you will be attending a party with lots of tempting treats take a little time before your outing to decide what you will indulge in, and what you will pass on. It is much easier to stick to healthy choices if you have already made the decision ahead of time. Life is meant to be enjoyed, it’s ok to enjoy a piece of cake at your cousins’ wedding, or have a burger at the company picnic. The important thing is that you keep your goals in mind and make sure that your actions are going to get you there!
Most dishes can be equally as tasty without derailing all your hard work! Try replacing hot dog and burger buns with sprouted whole grain options. Make your own burger patties with fresh herbs spices, and grass-fed beef. Make fruit salad that highlights the fruit and skips the cool whip. Make The Time
Despite the lazy beach bum vibes, this time of year tends to fly by! Kids are out of school which means it’s time for family vacations. Things can get hectic with all of those summertime commitments, but it is important you make a commitment to your health and make time for yourself. If anything it is more important to continue to show yourself some love when things get busy! It doesn’t take a lot to recharge your batteries and keep your fitness gains. If you know you will have a jam-packed day wake up 30minutes earlier to ensure you have time for your workout. You are worth it!
When life gets busy your workout is often the first thing to go, don’t let it happen to you! You have to keep moving. Sitting is the new smoking and if you want to enjoy your family and friends well into your golden years it is important that you keep moving today! You may need to switch up your workout routine to accommodate family schedules. Try getting everyone on board, get out for a family hike, or a walk around the neighborhood. Want to get really crazy? Run This Town

Just make sure to be considerate of your non-running family members, head out early before the festivities begin and it’s unlikely anyone will complain about you pounding the pavement. And who knows, maybe you will be an inspiration!
Pump It Up
Let’s get real here, you are not going to pack your kettlebell in your luggage, but there are still plenty of ways to keep working on those strength gains while you are on the road. Have you tried suspension training? There is no reason to let your goals fall by the wayside this summer. All it takes is a little forethought and dedication to make your summer healthy, nutritious, and fun!
