Why Hydration Is Important
Believe it or not it’s those little things you do each day that add up to better health. If you are ready to make a change but are intimidate by the idea of changing your entire lifestyle hydrating your body is the perfect place to start. Proper hydration is a key component of health. Depending on your body composition you are some where between 45-75% water, that is a lot of H2O! Water is absolutely essential for proper body to function. It is used to transport nutrients and waste, balance pH, maintain body temperature and is essential for metabolism. With out water your metabolism would grind to a halt. So if you want to lose weight and look great then hydrate! Even with all that water does in the body it is often over looked. It is all to easy to slack off on your hydration needs when you are not in the habit of replenishing through out the day, but with a few small steps you can be on your way to better health with every sip!
Hydrate Like A Pro
- Get a reusable water bottle that you LOVE! If you enjoy drinking from your fun water bottle you are more likely to . Fill it up and keep it with you throughout your day. Just having water available will increase how much you drink. I personally love this Glass Water Bottle with Silicone Sleeve, I can keep my water bottle with me on the go and I don’t have to worry about dealing with that plastic taste that some water bottles have.
- If you usually drink sugary drinks such as sodas, energy drinks, or juices it’s time to replace those beverages with some refreshing H2O! Drinking the sugar free version? Replace it with water! Your body needs water, it doesn’t need aspartame.
- Make it fun. If you struggle to drink plain water then mix it up. Slice up a lemon or lime in the morning and add it to your water bottle. Or get really crazy and add oranges, berries, or cucumbers(I would recommend peeling cucumbers as their skin can add a bitter taste) Go nuts! Try different combos until you find that flavor that keeps you coming back for more. Adding fruit to water is the original vitamin water, so enjoy!
Now that you are ready to get your drink on it’s time to figure our what your water intake needs are. This amount varies greatly from individual to individual. If you are very physically active, have a physically demanding job, or live in a hot or humid environment you will need to drink a lot more water than those who have a less demanding lifestyle. Generally letting your body guide you on when and how much to drink is great advise, However, if you have been neglecting this aspect of your health you may need to reset before your body is able to adequately judge when and how much fluids you actually need. With that in mind the general guide line for fluid intake in adults is around 9 cups for women and 2 cups for men. Remember your needs may be different, start there and see how you feel, you can always adjust.
Your first step towards better health is that simple, So fill up those water bottles and drink to your health!
